The Pacific Studies Specialisation is intended for students who want to explore broad and deep research-led learning on the Pacific Islands region. Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the Pacific region’s diversity and complexity, as well as the most urgent contemporary issues, challenges, and opportunities that it experiences. Drawing on the ANU's world-leading expertise in the field, students undertaking this Specialisation will receive a strong grounding in Pacific Studies.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand the contemporary Pacific, its place in the world, its diversity and complexity.
- Identify and critically analyse the most important contemporary dynamics of the Pacific region.
- Employ a range of disciplinary perspectives to the study of the Pacific with a view to exploring key issues in transdisciplinary ways that foreground the experiences and perspectives of Pacific peoples.
Other Information
The Pacific Studies specialisation is not available to students enrolled in either the Master of Pacific Studies or the Master of Asian and Pacific Studies.
Students wishing to develop a comparative account of Asia and the Pacific regions should consider, if their program allows, the Asian and Pacific Studies specialisation.

Requirements
This specialisation requires the completion of 24 units, of which:
A minimum of 12 units must come from completion of 8000-level courses
24 units must come from completion of the following compulsory courses:
PASI8002 Pacific Foundations
PASI8004 Human Security and Wellbeing in the Pacific
PASI8005 Politics of Aid and Development
PASI8011 Critical approaches to the Pacific and Inclusive Research
