The Asian Studies specialisation allows students to develop depth and breadth in their appreciation of the world's most important region. Drawing on expertise from across the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific, the Asian Studies specialisation allows students to consider the social, political, and cultural dynamics that shape Asia and the world today.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Understand some of the key challenges and opportunities that states in Asia face today
  2. Consider and appreciate Asia from a variety of disciplinary perspectives
  3. Understand the historical context of contemporary Asia

Other Information

The Asian Studies Specialisation is intended for students who wish to engage deeply with the study of Asia. Students who wish to consider and compare Asia and the Pacific should take the Asia Pacific Specialisation.

This specialisation is not available to students in the Master of Asian Studies or Master of Asian and Pacific Studies.

Requirements

This specialisation requires the completion of 24 units, of which:

A minimum of 12 units must come from completion of 8000-level courses

24 units must come from completion of courses from the following list:

ASIA8512 Supervised Project in Asia Pacific Studies (topic must be related to Asian Studies)
