The aim of this program is to teach project management with significant theoretical underpinning to be implemented across various areas of work, industries, disciplines and cultures. The program prepares students for leadership in the project management profession.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the skills and knowledge to:

  1. initiate, plan, execute, control, evaluate and close projects to deliver agreed scope within time and budget constraints;
  2. report and explain project status to a range of stakeholder audiences;
  3. explain the links between projects, business outcomes and organisational strategy;
  4. manage and lead projects, including those that are complex and involve organisational change; and,
  5. articulate the relationship between theory, including contemporary research in project management, and best practice.

Research Strengths

The Master of Project Management allows students to complete four electives.  Any student who wishes to pursue a Masters sub-thesis as a pathway to a PhD may be able to enrol in MMIB8006, which allows for a 24 unit research sub-thesis. For eligibility for enrolling in this course, please contact the Research School of Management.

Further Information

Please be advised that BUSN8005 will not be available from 2016. As a substitute, you should enrol in BUSN8181 Financial Reporting and Analysis.

Please be advised that BUSN7024 will not be available from 2017. Instead, you should enrol in MGMT7024 Project Management Principles.

Please be advised that BUSN8062 will not be available from 2017. Instead, you should enrol in MGMT8062 Managing Major Projects.

Internship courses of CBEA6070 and ANIP6505 can be counted toward the degree as elective courses.

In S1, 2017, MGMT7170 is incompatible with the new course MGMT7020. Please choose only one of the two courses. 

In S1, 2017, MGMT7001 is incompatible with the new course MKTG7260. Please choose only one of the two courses.

Admission Requirements

A Bachelor degree or international equivalent with a minimum GPA of 5/7.

All applicants must meet the University’s English Language Admission Requirements for Students

Applicants with a Bachelor degree in a cognate discipline may be eligible for 24 units (1 semester) of credit.

Applicants with a Graduate Diploma or Honours in a cognate discipline may be eligible for 48 units (2 semesters) of credit.

Applicants with relevant work experience may be eligible for 24 units (1 semester) of credit.

Applicants with a Graduate Certificate or equivalent professional/executive training such as a pre-masters program, in a cognate discipline may be eligible for 24 units (1 semester) of credit.

The maximum credit that may be granted for a combination of cognate study and relevant work experience is 48 units (2 semesters).

Enrolment Status

It is possible to enrol in fewer courses per semester but it will take you longer to finish your program and get your degree. If you are an international student you must always be enrolled full-time in 24 units each semester.

Remember you will need to enrol in courses for both First Semester and Second Semester.  You will be able to change your enrolment in courses up until Monday of week 2 of each semester without penalty.

If you are applying for any credit or exemption towards the program, students (except the ANU students) are required to provide course outlines for the courses they completed in their previous studies. Please note that courses that were completed more than 7 years ago will not be considered for credit.
