Histology is the study of the microscopic structure of tissues through the visual examination of morphology and physiology at the cellular level.  This course will examine cell structure and function using various staining techniques and describe recent advances in microscopy.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

On satisfying the requirements of this course, students will have the knowledge and skills to:1) identify the important aspects of cellular structure relative to function2) perform techniques that will help in understanding cell and tissue structure and function3) discover means of investigating cellular structure and function4) develop skills for appropriate experimental design and report writing

Other Information

Completion of 72 units toward a degree including BIOL1004 and BIOL2103 is required.  Enrolment is restricted to 40 students and entry will be merit-based.   Students should email rsb.studentadmin@anu.edu.au by 30 November to register for the course.  A permission code will be emailed to students who have been admitted into the course.

  • Research paper (40%; LO 1, 2, 4)
  • Lab participation (20%; LO 2)
  • Exam (40%; LO 1, 3)

3-4 hours of lectures each day followed by a laboratory session each afternoon over 2 weeks

To enrol in this course you must have completed 72 units toward a degree including BIOL1004 and BIOL2103.
