This course continues with the development of listening and reading comprehension skills and with the development of oral and written communication. This includes a review and extension of basic German grammar and vocabulary, and training in and reflection on language learning strategies.
The course focuses also on the analysis of literary and non literary texts - appropriate to the language level - about life and culture of the German-speaking societies. Furthermore, it engages students in learning opportunities in the area of intercultural communication.

On successful completion, the student will have a repertoire of basic German which enables him/her to deal with everyday situations with predictable content. Furthermore, the student will be able to read easy short literary texts and relate them to German-speaking culture. He/she will also have an understanding of current affairs in the German-speaking societies.
Indicative Assessment
Graduate students may attend joint classes with undergraduates but can expect more rigorous asessment and additional assignment work, tailored to their interests.
The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity.
