An individual course of readings on a topic identified by the student in consultation with the coordinator. The focus will be on English language material but students with particular Asian language skills will be encouraged to use them where possible. Weekly meetings to discuss material covered will be on a one-to-one basis.

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

As each individual student's project will be tailored to specific supervisors, the learning outcomes will differ.  Nevertheless, as most will pursue guided reading and research papers, it can be expected that the course will promote students' knowledge of the selected area; critical reading and analysis skills; and writing ability consistent with a guided research project.

Other Information

To enrol in this course you will need permission of the Course Convenor.  This will be given based on evidence of strong ability and motivation. Applicants will be required to submit a one-page research proposal outlining the material they wish to cover.  Enrolment will be subject to the availability of a suitable supervisor.

Indicative Assessment

Reports (40%), Research essay of 3,000 words (60%).

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students.
