Program Requirements

The program requires the completion of a minimum of 48 units including:

Completion of 30 units from the following courses:

COMP6240 Relational Databases
COMP6311 Software Analysis and Design
COMP6331 Computer Networks or COMP6340 Networked Information Systems
Any two courses from:

COMP6700 Introductory Programming or COMP6710 Introduction to Software Systems
COMP6719 Computing for Engineering Simulation
COMP6730 Programming for Scientists
COMP6442 Software Construction

Completion of a further 18 units of approved courses, including a minimum of 6 units of 6000/8000-series computing courses.

Admission Requirements

Admission requires an approved bachelor degree in a science, engineering or related discipline with a credit average (or equivalent) and with at least one programming course and two mathematics courses in the areas of discrete mathematics, calculus, linear algebra and statistics.

Students without a degree but who have at least three years relevant work experience, or a combination of qualifications and experience, may also receive admission.

All students who have completed the Graduate Diploma in Computing are eligible for associate membership with the Australian Computer Society. Students completing the Graduate Diploma in Computing with a Distinction average may be granted one year of status to the Master of Computing.

This program aims to educate science/engineering/technology graduates in contemporary computing in a way that can provide a route for them into the Information Technology (IT) industry.

You will gain a strong foundation to do more advanced study in the computing discipline. Students completing the Graduate Diploma in Computing with a Distinction average may be granted one year of credit into the Master of Computing.

The Graduate Diploma of Computing is a one year full time program accredited for associate membership with the Australian Computing Society. It will educate science/engineering/technology graduates in modern aspects of computing to provide a route for them in the Information Technology industry and
a foundation to study more advanced computing disciplines.

Single degree

This degree requires the completion of 48 units
18 units are compulsory courses
12 units of programming courses
18 units of additiional approved courses which must include 6 units of 6000/8000-level COMP

Double degree

This degree can be followed by a Master of Computing with up to 48 units of advanced standing for students who meet the requirements of a 70% Distinction average.

About this degree

Typically students will enrol in 24 units per semester (four courses).

Enrolment Status

Domestic students are able to enrol in fewer courses each semester which is called studying part time. It will extend the duration of the degree and there are limitations to how long you can take to complete the degree
If you are an international student you must always study full time.

Important things to keep in mind when choosing your 1000-level courses

You should read the ATTACHED for information about courses available and suggested enrolment patterns.

You need to enrol in courses for both First Semester and Second Semester
You can’t study more than four courses (24 units) per semester, eight for the year.
