Program Requirements
The Graduate Certificate of Arts requires the completion of 24 units, which must consist of:
24 units from completion of one of the following specialisations:
Art History and Curatorial Studies
General and Applied Linguistics
Middle Eastern and Central Asian Studies
Music Composition, Arranging, and Sound Design I
Musicology, Ethnomusicology, and Music Curatorship I

A Bachelor degree or international equivalent.

By studying the Graduate Certificate of Arts you will gain a graduate level understanding in the humanities, social sciences, languages, visual arts, or music. Studied over one semester full-time, or one year part-time, the Graduate Certificate of Arts provides a foundation for further graduate study including some Master’s programs.
Specialisations
You can choose from a broad range of disciplines in which to specialize: Anthropology (including Biological Anthropology), Archaeological Science, Art History and Curatorial Studies, Biographical Research and Writing, Classics, Cultural and Environmental Heritage, Development, Digital Arts, History, Indigenous Policy, Linguistics (General and Applied), Middle Eastern and Central Asian Studies, Museums and Collections (including Education and Heritage Interpretation), Music, Social Research and Visual Arts.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate of Arts, students will have developed the appropriate disciplinary knowledge and acquired advanced skills to:
- critically apply theoretical frameworks and research techniques to understanding national and international issues and problems;
- relate a field of study in the arts, humanities or social sciences to its wider cultural and societal context;
- critically evaluate ideas and develop creative solutions to complex problems; and
- communicate and debate complex issues both orally and in writing using a variety of media.
Further Information
Music Performance I Specialisation
Applicants will be expected to have pre-existing musical knowledge such as a competency level equivalent to completion of a Bachelor of Music, or a Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Music, or equivalent qualifications or experience.
Entry to the Graduate Music Performance courses is by completion of MUSI3002 Music Performance 6 with a mark of at least 65, or audition at equivalent level. Applicants wishing to enrol in Graduate Music Performance courses are advised to contact the School to arrange for an audition as soon as possible. E: schoolofmusic@anu.edu.au.
Music Composition, Arranging and Sound Design I Specialisation
Applicants will be expected to have pre-existing musical knowledge such as a competency level equivalent to completion of a Bachelor of Music, or a Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Music, or equivalent qualifications or experience.
Entry to the Graduate Composition, Arranging and Sound Design courses is by completion of MUSI3315 Creative Musicianship 6 with a mark of at least 65, or submission of a portfolio of works of equivalent standard. Applicants wishing to enrol in Graduate Composition, Arranging and Sound Design courses are advised to contact the ANU School of Music to arrange for assessment of the portfolio as soon as possible. Digital Arts Specialisation
