The final component of the Master of Asia and Pacific Studies is an individual course of readings on a topic identified by the student in consultation with the coordinator. The focus will be on English language material but students with particular Asian language skills will be encouraged to use them where possible. Weekly discussions to discuss material covered will be on a one-to-one basis.
This course will provide an opportunity for students to pursue a research topic of their own interest, display their ability to independently research and compose a dissertation of high standard.

On satisfying the requirements of this course, students will1. have an advanced understanding of a complex body of knowledge focusing on a research project agreed with their supervisor
2. be able to analyse critically, reflect on and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories
3. research and apply established theories to a body of knowledge
4. interpret and transmit knowledge, skills and ideas in the form of an oral presentation and a significant written piece

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity.
