An individual course of readings on a topic chosen by the student and approved by an individual supervisor and the program coordinator. The focus will be on English language material but students with particular Asian or Pacific language skills are encouraged to use them where possible. Regular meetings to discuss material covered and the development of a final project will be on a one-to-one basis. 
Note: Enrolment is subject to the availability of a suitable supervisor, and students who do not have an agreed-upon supervisor by the beginning of the semester may not be permitted to enrol.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

On satisfying the requirements of this course, students will

1. have an advanced understanding of a complex body of knowledge focusing on a research project agreed with their supervisor
2. be able to analyse critically, reflect on and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories
3. research and apply established theories to a body of knowledge
4. interpret and transmit knowledge, skills and ideas in the form of an oral presentation and a significant written piece

Indicative Assessment

1. Research proposal - 10% (LO 1,2,3)
2. Oral presentation - 20% (LO 1,2,3,4)
3. Final essay - 70% - (LO 1,2,3,4)

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. Workload

Full-time students should expect to commit approximately 10 hours per week to their research
