This course focuses on best practice in conserving the cultural values of world heritage sites. Students will have the opportunity to learn practical heritage management skills alongside of gaining a thorough understanding of the theoretical and political issues relating to world heritage and, more generally, cultural heritage management. This intensive topic will be based at a key heritage site in Australia or overseas and will include local and international experts in the field of heritage.

  • Heritage and the local community
  • Cultural landscapes

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  • in written and verbal expression for a variety of relevant academic and / or professional purposes;
  • in interdisciplinary thinking and the ability to apply theoretical ideas to case studies developed from personal observation;
  • required for cultural heritage management;
  • to model best practice and have a commitment to ethical, reflective practice in regard to cultural heritage.

Indicative Assessment

Class worksheets (50%) and a 3000 word essay (50%)

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students.
