History of the Spanish Language is an introduction to the main concepts and methods of the analysis of Spanish across time. The course focuses on the evolution of Spanish from Latin, paying attention to the changes in its components (sounds, verbs, configurations, etc.) and to the external history of the language in Spain and the world. Students will examine Spanish in its historical and changing nature.

2. Demonstrate understanding of the changing and evolving nature of Spanish. 

3. Demonstrate ability to produce a critical summary on a linguistic topic.

4. Demonstrate improvement in oral and written communication at an advanced level.

Indicative Assessment

Exams (2) 50% (LO 1, 2, 4)

Oral presentation 25% (LO 1, 2, 4)

Critical summary of linguistic reading (1200 words) 25% (LO 1-4)

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. Workload

This course has 3 weekly contact hours, and additionally at least 7 hours of study per week outside of class.

Requisite and Incompatibility

To enrol in this course you must have successfully completed SPAN2002 or have equivalent level of language proficiency as demonstrated by placement test. Alternatively you may gain permission of the Course Convener to enrol in this course.
