Admission Requirements

A Bachelor degree or international equivalent with an average mark of at least 65%.

All applicants must meet the University’s English Language Admission Requirements for Students

Applicants with a Bachelor degree in a cognate discipline may be eligible for 24 units (1 semester) of credit.

Applicants with a Graduate Diploma or Honours in a cognate discipline may be eligible for 48 units (1 year) of credit.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the skills and knowledge to:

1. Exercise judgement under supervision to analyse and solve information systems problems in diverse contexts using technical, social, ethical, economic, regulatory and global perspectives.
2. Integrate theoretical and technical information systems knowledge which includes a selection of issues in enterprise systems, business process management, project management, systems modelling, database design, communication technologies, and with an understanding of contemporary issues in information systems research.
3. Critically apply theoretical and technical information systems knowledge and skills to evaluate complex information systems problems in professional and research contexts.
4. Justify and communicate information systems advice and ideas in diverse collaborative contexts involving stakeholders with both IS and non-IS specialist skills.

Additionally, as outlined in the Engineering and ICT Learning and Teaching Academic Standards Statement (ALTC 2010), Graduates of the Master of Business Information Systems will have the skills and knowledge to:

1. Identify, interpret and analyse stakeholder needs, establish priorities and the goals, constraints and uncertainties of the system (social, cultural, legislative, environmental, business etc), using systems thinking, while recognising ethical implications of professional practice.
2. Apply problem solving, design and decision making methodologies to develop components, systems and/or processes to meet specified requirements, including innovative approaches to synthesise alternative solutions, concepts and procedures, while demonstrating information skills and research methods.
3. Apply abstraction, mathematics and discipline fundamentals to analysis, design and operation; use appropriate computer software, laboratory equipment and other devices; ensure model applicability, accuracy and limitations.
4. Communicate and coordinate proficiently by: listening, speaking, reading and writing English for professional practice; working as an effective member or leader of diverse teams; using basic tools and practices of formal project management.
5. Manage own time and processes effectively by prioritising competing demands to achieve personal and team goals, with regular review of personal performance as a primary means of managing continuing professional development.
