This course presents key aspects of life drawing including observation and analysis of form, anatomical study, and composition. Students will explore a range of drawing materials and develop observational and technical skills. Conceptual and thematic issues are addressed and the program is structured around four topics designed to introduce a range of skills and processes. Workplace health and safety (WHS) instruction is an integral part of the course.

This is a topic-based course which rotates over four semesters. Each semester focuses on one of the following  topics: Narrative & Character, Light & Space, Mark & Structure or Tone & Line.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload

130 hours of total student learning time made up from: a) 48 hours of contact over 12 weeks: lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice; and b) 82 hours of independent studio practice, reading and writing.
