This course is designed to showcase a new area of teaching for the GSNSP program, which allows students to learn from visiting specialists at the National Security College, or provide an introduction to research in national security.

Learning Outcomes

Given the flexibility of this course, specific learning outcomes will be advised in the course outlines each year, however, all Select Topic courses would enable participants to gain:

  • A deeper understanding of the topic under consideration; and
  • An introduction to research methods and skills.

Indicative Assessment

Assessment requirements are aligned to each Select Topic, and will be included in course outlines each year.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. For additional information regarding Turnitin please visit the ANU Online website.

Workload

The course will involve weekly seminar discussions and extensive research, with a total workload of 10 hours per week.
