Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

By the completion of this course, it is intended that students who have successfully completed all the course requirements will: 
1. Develop and apply effective oral and written communication strategies in a variety of legal practice contexts. 
2. Review, analyse, consolidate and synthesise knowledge at an entry level lawyer standard to conduct property and commercial law transactions and civil litigation matters.
3. Critically reflect on the breadth and scope of legal issues and applicable law relevant to a complex legal practice problem, develop solutions and advise a client on the available options.
4. Facilitate early resolution of disputes and negotiate settlements.
5. Apply knowledge and skills with creativity and initiative to new situations in professional practice.
6. Apply knowledge and skills demonstrating independent judgement, self-management and accountability, and reflect on the student's own ethical and professional behaviours, responsibilities and experiences in order to improve future performance.
7. Explain requirements in relation to financial transactions and legal costs, and comply with relevant processes, law and good practice.
8. Collaborate effectively with peers, clients, staff, legal and other professionals to identify, analyse and solve legal practice problems.

Indicative Assessment

The assessment package includes:
1.    completion (with your colleagues) of transactions plus individual assessments in the Practice Areas: 
Civil Litigation (LO 1, 2, 3 & 8)       
Commercial and Corporate Practice (LO 1, 2, 3, 4 & 8)       
Property Practice (LO 1, 2, 3 & 8)
2.    individual assessments outside the transactional environment in Trust and Office Accounting and Ethics and Professional Responsibility. (LO 3,4,5,6,&7)

Portfolio Development: as you proceed through the GDLP you will collate examples of your professional development towards the skills, attributes and identity formation required of a competent entry level lawyer.  The items collated in this portfolio will be utilised in the final Ready for Practice course and may provide you with useful templates for your entry into practice.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. Workload

This is an online course without in-person class contact time. The course is a substantial one and students should expect to spend 15 to 20 hours per week on it. The time you will need to spend working on the course will depend to some extent on your pre-existing knowledge and experience of practice.

The sorts of activities that you will be engaged in will include:

• working with your colleagues and supervisors on transactions
• accessing print and online materials so you can complete your transaction work
• contributing to online discussions and reflective work on your learning
• completing some assessments outside the transactional environment
• working with your practice mentor to compile your evidence for attaining competencies.
