This course provides a foundation for future specialised work relevant to visual arts disciplines.  Weekly projects are designed to introduce students to a range of skills and conceptual issues relating to image and object making. The application of two-dimensional and three-dimensional representation and issues such as the dynamics of colour, design, composition and pictorial space will be explored.

  1. Explain basic processes with the understanding of material properties relevant to the visual arts.
  2. Apply a range of introductory technical skills relevant to visual arts and the discussed topics.
  3. Demonstrate creative exploration of materials and processes expressed in 2D and 3D form.
  4. Demonstrate observation and analytical skills in areas such as 2D and 3D form, design, colour and composition.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload

130 hours of total student learning time made up from: a) 48 hours of contact over 12 weeks: lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice; and b) 82 hours of independent studio practice, reading and writing.

Requisite and Incompatibility

You are not able to enrol in this course if you have previously completed ANUC1124.
