Program Requirements
The Diploma of Music requires the completion of 48 units, which must consist of:
42 units from completion of the following compulsory courses:

ANUC1104 Introduction to Social Psychology
ANUC1107 Logic and Critical Thinking
ANUC1111 Music Performance 1
ANUC1112 Music Performance 2
ANUC1113 Digital Culture: Being Human in the Information Age
ANUC1119 Music from 1900 to the Present: A Century of Crisis and Change
6 units from completion of a course from the following list:
ANUC1135 Music Theory & Aural Skills 1
ANUC1136 Music Theory & Aural Skills 2
ANUC1137 Music Theory & Aural Skills 3
Elective Study
Once you have met the program requirements of your degree, you may have enough electives to complete an additional elective major, minor or specialisation.

Admission Requirements
Admission to the Diploma of Music is based on meeting the ATAR 70 requirement or an equivalent rank derived from the following qualifications:
• An Australian year 12 qualification or international equivalent; OR
• An approved tertiary preparation course unless subsequent study is undertaken; OR
• Relevant work experience may be considered in determining eligibility.
• Students must have a pass in performance at Grade 5 level of the Australian Music Examinations Board or equivalent, or pass an audition held by the ANU School of Music.

Students who meet the ATAR entry requirement for Bachelor level study are not eligible to enrol in the Diploma of Music

The ANU Diploma of Music is an exciting new pathway into the Bachelor of Music. Your transcript and testamur will be issued by the Australian National University.
Students successfully completing the Diploma will be admitted to the Bachelor of Music program. Students successfully completing the Diploma with no more than one fail or incomplete grade and a GPA of 5.0 will receive 48 units of credit status when they progress into the Bachelor of Music. The transition from the Diploma to the Bachelor will allow students to complete their Bachelor of Music with a major in Performance, Music Technology or Musicology after only two additional years of study.
Enrolment in other programs and majors is permitted, however students may be required to complete additional requisite courses to meet program rules. Note that enrolment in the flexible double degree is not available. Note also that further performance courses are available only to students who enroll in the Bachelor of Music.
Students aspiring to study at ANU, and those the University seeks to reach, sometimes do not meet the minimum entry requirements. This may be due to restricted educational opportunity, geographic location, cultural or socio-economic expectations or restrictions, lack of choice, or personal factors such as individual or family circumstances that affect success. Other students may be very close to ANU entry requirements, but miss out on entry by a small margin. These students will benefit from a high support entry pathway to ANU.
The aim of the Diploma of Music is to provide an opportunity for high quality and aspiring students to access ANU and to succeed in degree programs on completion. If you aspire to join the Bachelor of Music but do not meet the ANU admission requirements, this program may provide you with an alternative pathway to your future at the ANU.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the skills and knowledge to:
- Identify problems relevant to music and to the arts, identify theories and find secondary sources relevant to those problems, propose solutions based on theory and the evaluation of those sources, and communicate those solutions through a variety of media including music performance;
- Debate key issues relating to music and society;
- Prepare academic texts that demonstrate appropriate academic practice in attribution and referencing; and
- Evaluate and report on their own musical and academic output.
