This major is only available to students undertaking the Bachelor of Visual Arts.

Jewellery and Object develops knowledge and skills for the production of contemporary jewellery and domestic objects. A wide range of interests and approaches are encouraged and include; one off art objects through to limited production products for exhibition and/or commercial sale. Students learn both traditional hand-based techniques and mechanised approaches for making that apply analogue and digital technologies. A wide range of materials are encountered including precious and non-precious metals, as well as natural materials and synthetics amongst others. The historical traditions of gold and silversmithing provide an important foundation for this major and the basis on which to propose fresh ideas for emergent futures.

School of Art & Design studio courses have a limited enrolment capacity. Students are advised to enrol as early as possible to maximise the opportunity of securing a place.
 

 

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
  1. demonstrate skills and knowledge of the practices, languages, forms, materials, technologies and techniques that relate to jewellery and objects;
  2. apply relevant skills and knowledge to realise jewellery and objects with creative and/or commercial attributes;
  3. develop and evaluate concepts and process by thinking creatively, critically and reflectively;
  4. work independently and collaboratively in a workshop environment in response to project demands; and
  5. apply workplace health and safety (WHS) regulations and principles within a workshop environment.

Requirements

This major requires the completion of 48 units, which must include:

A maximum of 12 units of courses at 1000 level
A minimum of 12 units of courses at 3000 level
