This course is structured around projects designed to develop and deepen a range of skills and technologies that are coupled with conceptual strategies. The course introduces character development skills in animation or video. Students engage in a process of technical and conceptual exploration through individual responses to various topics, supported by an independent contextual research project. They begin to develop innovative and individual applications of animation or video processes. Workplace health and safety (WHS) instruction is an integral part of this course. This topic-based course alternates over two years (odd and even years). In odd years, the course focuses on staging and timing. Even years will investigate design and performance.

  1. Competently utilise a range of animation or video skills and technologies relevant to character development in response to set projects
  2. Explore the potential of animation or video technologies and equipment relevant to character development used in set projects
  3. Reflectively investigate the inventive application of concepts and processes in character development
  4. Engage with historical and theoretical contexts relevant to set projects.

Other Information

Students may enrol in this course more than once. This course may be taken up to two times, if a different topic is taken each time, for a maximum of 12 units of credit. This course can only be counted once towards a major or minor.

Workload

130 hours of total student learning time made up from:
a) 48 hours of contact over 12 weeks: lectures, group discussion, critiques and supervised studio practice; and
b) 82 hours of independent studio practice, reading and writing.

Requisite and Incompatibility

To enrol in this course you must have completed at least one of the following courses: ARTV1103, ARTV1104, ARTV2059, ARTV2615 or ARTV2617. You are not able to enrol in this course if you have previously completed any of the following courses: ARTV2106, DART2100 or DART2101.
