This course is a practical introduction to Gamilaraay, a heritage Indigenous Australian language whose custodians are reviving it . It is designed to develop basic speaking, listening, reading and writing skills at an introductory level, and to develop a knowledge and understanding of some elements of traditional and current culture, and the importance of language to the community.
This course may be offered on campus or off-campus (location(s) to be advised for each offering), and delivered over the course of a semester or in intensive mode. It may also be offered online. This course is available for cross-Institutional enrolment.
Students will only be permitted to travel upon completion of ANU required documentation, including, where required, the approval of all documentation by the relevant delegate.
Disclaimer: Applicants are advised that due to circumstances beyond the University's control (for example, specific community security concerns and health crises) it may not be possible for students to commence or complete this course. - demonstrate communicative skills allowing them to ask questions, give directions and discuss some topics in Gamilaraay;
- read, create and understand short texts in Gamilaraay; and
- carry out research on cultural, traditional and linguistics practices specific to Gamilaraay.

Important notice:
If your final course is in a non-standard session, results may not be available in time for the upcoming Conferring of Awards Ceremonies. Results for a course will only be released once marks for all students in the course have been finalised and entered. Individual results for students will not be released. An autumn session course may not receive results by the deadline to graduate in July and a spring session course may not receive results by the deadline to graduate in December. You must take this into consideration before enrolling into this course.

Workload
130 hours of total student learning time made up from:a) 36 hours of contact: 36 hours of seminars and/or online class time for students taking the class as an online course; and
