DPsych Clinical Coursework VI is associated with the Doctor of Psychology (Clinical) degree and consists of two sub-courses:

• Advanced Clinical Workshops
• On Becoming a Supervisor: A Person-Centred Process Approach to Clinical Supervision

Advanced Clinical Workshops (Convenor: Dr Elizabeth Rieger)

An essential skill in contemporary clinical psychology, and for any independently practising clinical psychologist, is the ability to develop, present, and assess appropriate professional development activities. This sub-course is designed to assist the third year doctoral student in developing the necessary strategies and techniques for successful workshop presentation as well as the opportunity to research and gain skills in an area of advanced clinical work.

This sub-course is continued from the previous semester and invloves the presentation of the workshop developed during PSYC9015 DPsych Clinical Coursework V. The workshop will be attended by second and third year students in the clinical program. The student will take full responsibility for presenting the workshop including conducting an appropriate evaluation.

On Becoming a Supervisor: A Person-Centred Process Approach to Clinical Supervision

(Convenor: Salih Ozgul) Three full day and two half-day workshops

This sub-course involves workshops, reading and reflective exercises that emerge from the workshops and participation in clinical peer supervision with a colleague throughout the period of training. The training is predominately experiential, asking participants to take part in individual and group self-reflective exercises, learning and practicing specific supervision skills and strategies in small group role plays, providing peer clinical supervision for a colleague, developing individual learning projects to encourage exploration of one’s own supervision practices, using video/audio recordings of supervision practice, sharing supervision experiences/dilemmas and receiving and giving feedback, support and guidance to group members. Satisfactory completion of the course requires active participation in all aspects of the course, completion of course submissions and demonstration of having acquired a sound theoretical understanding of and skills and competencies in clinical supervision.
