The Glass major equips students with the practical, critical and research skills to develop a unique approach to working with glass in a professional context. Students are introduced to a range of thematic and practical applications including visual arts, design and hybrid practices. Courses are led through one-on-one teaching, group presentations and seminars. A vibrant visiting artists program provides unique opportunities for students to work closely with contemporary luminaries. Academic staff are leaders in their field and deliver research-led teaching. The strong studio-based culture encourages peer-to-peer learning and community engagement locally, nationally and internationally.
School of Art & Design studio courses have a limited enrolment capacity. Students are advised to enrol as early as possible to maximise the opportunity of securing a place.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate an understanding and application of the practices, languages, forms, materials, technologies and techniques in glass;
- realise artefacts and forms of creative expression;
- develop and evaluate concepts and process by thinking creatively, critically and reflectively;
- work independently and collaboratively in a workshop environment in response to project demands; and
- apply workplace health and safety (WHS) regulations and principles within a workshop environment.
