The Masters of Applied Cybernetics requires completion of 48 units which must consist of:
48 units from the following compulsory courses:
CECS6001 Framing Questions about Cyber-physical Systems (12u)
CECS6002 Cybernetics Practice for Cyber-Physical Systems (12u)
CECS8001 Building Cyber-Physical Systems (24u)
CECS8005 Applied Cybernetics Experience (0u)
At a minimum, all applicants must meet program-specific academic/non-academic requirements, and the Policy: English language requirements for admission. Admission to most ANU programs is on a competitive basis. Therefore, meeting all admission requirements does not guarantee entry into the program.
In line with the university's admissions policy and strategic plan, an assessment for admission may include competitively ranking applicants on the basis of specific academic achievement, professional experience, English language proficiency and diversity factors.
The University reserves the right to alter or discontinue its programs and change admission requirements as needed.

Entry into the Master of Applied Cybernetics is based on a competitive two-stage selection process.
Stage one is based on evaluation of:
a. cover letter addressing the program selection criteria;
- A track record of outputs illustrating intellectual leadership in your field, such as (but not limited to): Awards, grants and projects secured; Publications, media, policy briefings, outreach activities, guidelines and training delivered; IP, products and product concepts created
- A demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas across disciplines, media and sectors, to a range of audiences.
- A demonstrated ability to operate with a high degree of flexibility and openness to calculated risk-taking.
- Demonstrated determination and resilience. Aptitude for working in uncertain and fast changing environments.
- Demonstrated aptitude for interdisciplinary / transdisciplinary collaboration
- Individual and/or group-based professional / entrepreneurial / community service contributions. Experience in one or multiple of these fields (highly regarded): education, policy, technology, business, the arts, science, engineering, computing, social sciences, and entrepreneurship.
- Ability to operate across disciplinary silos. Ability to think laterally and critically. Collaborative and mission-driven mindset.

c. a full curriculum vitae clearly identifying periods of full-time and part-time professional experience;
d. either a statement from the current employer confirming relevant experience; or both a statement as at why this cannot be provided and the contact details of two professional referees who can verify the experience.
Stage two is based on an interview with the selection panel. It is at discretion of the selection panel to seek further information to support claims made through the application process. This may involve a larger portfolio of academic, professional and/or creative works. Assumed level of knowledge for program
Although not formal entry requirements, the following level of cognate study in any discipline, or relevant professional experience is assumed.
- A Bachelor degree with honours or international equivalent, or higher qualification, and GPA of 5/7; or
- A Bachelor degree or international equivalent with a minimum GPA of 5/7 and a minimum of 3 years full-time, relevant work experience at ANZSCO Skill Level 1; or
- GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test), completed no more than 5 years before the time of application, with a minimum score of 600 (minimum 5.0 in Analytical Writing) and a minimum of 8 years full-time, relevant work experience; or
- GRE General test, completed no more than 5 years before the time of application, with a minimum score of 155 for Verbal Reasoning, 155 for Quantitative Reasoning and 4.0 in Analytical Writing and a minimum of 8 years full-time, relevant work experience; or

The Master of Applied Cybernetics is a 1 year full-time (or equivalent part-time) degree that provides students with:
- Advanced skills in managing cyber-physical systems from critical thinking and questioning, to an understanding of how the technology relates to the regulatory environment.
- A solid understanding of the machine and human components of a cyber-physical system, including their historical context.
- The intellectual framework for the management of complex, integrated systems within a social and environmental context.
- The opportunity to undertake cybernetics-related research and work experience of professional relevance.
