This course enables students to initiate a capstone music project that integrates both performance and composition, allowing for greater emphasis on one area depending on the student’s artistic direction. The project will center on a live music context and demonstrate the development of original creative work through blended practical, theoretical, and research approaches. Students will develop a detailed project proposal in consultation with the course convenor, identifying artistic goals and feasibility within a live setting. The focus is on early-stage project planning, contextual analysis, and milestone delivery.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. design and justify the scope of a live music project that integrates performance and/or composition, allowing for varied emphasis based on artistic direction;
  2. formulate and critically project objectives within a live music practice context;
  3. critically analyse techniques and strategies for live music creation and engagement; and
  4. complete a key milestone of an original live music project such as a rehearsal video or draft composition.
