The Contemporary Music Production major equips students with skills and knowledge in blended recording and composition practice, with a particular emphasis on the capture and distribution of music in contemporary contexts. It fosters practical experience in diverse production environments—from Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) to world-class large recording studio facilities in the School of Music—supporting students in developing the technical and creative expertise required to realise and disseminate professional music recordings. Students in this major are encouraged to explore the breadth of genres involved in contemporary music making, facilitating a deep understanding of the recording, compositional, and performance techniques used across styles. The major supports students in following their passion for their chosen genres, which may include popular music in its myriad forms, jazz, classical, and global music, while also challenging them to incorporate emergent techniques and technologies into their creative and distributive practice.
