This course is designed to provide students with a deeper understanding of the concepts and issues in accounting and related fields by integrating and synthesising the knowledge and skills they have acquired to undertake an applied research project. With instructional guidance, students will undertake independent research work to develop a research proposal and literature review, and to produce a written report of their research project. 

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Critically analyse and synthesise advanced issues in accounting and related fields.
  2. Demonstrate an advanced and coherent understanding of the relevant research literature in the selected topic(s).
  3. Critically evaluate complex ideas and research issues involved in the selected topic(s), drawing on appropriate theoretical and empirical evidence.

Indicative Assessment

  1. Typical assessment may include, but is not restricted to, multiple major pieces of assessment and/or a major research report. (100) [LO 1,2,3]

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. Workload

Students taking this course are expected to commit at least 10 hours a week to completing the work. This will include 3 hours per week in class and at least 7 hours a week on average on course reading, research, writing and assignment work.
