The aim is to recognise the efforts of high-achieving students in the organising committee of ANU Asia Pacific Week and allow the students to engage deeply with one conference panel or theme. The conference is an opportunity for students to work closely with the College of Asia and the Pacific and to apply the knowledge they have acquired into running a week-long academic event. This involves placement in one portfolio (Logistics, Delegates, Media and Marketing, Finance, Content and Special Projects) and 6-7 months commitment to the projects and duties of that portfolio. During the placement the student will receive advice and direction from College Staff and the course Convenor. Only students on the APW committee can enrol in ASIA3023.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Contribute to the design and organisation of a large and complex event.
  2. Coordinate, connect, and deliver information to a range of stakeholders professionally.
  3. Collaborate professionally with the organising team and stakeholders on the formulation and implementation of complex projects.
  4. Identify, analyse and discuss complex issues in Asia and the Pacific.
  5. Systematically reflect on and evaluate professional experience, work-life-study balance, and teamwork.

Work Integrated Learning

Placements

The WIL component provides an opportunity for you to work in a genuine business setting. It exposes you to a diverse learning experience that cannot be formulated in the classroom alone. It will enable you to understand how you can apply what you’ve learnt into a practical setting where you develop a sense of workplace culture.

Other Information

Only Asia Pacific Week committee members can enrol. The committee is selected in October/November of the previous year.  Please contact the CAP Student Centre for more information.

Indicative Assessment

  1. Learning journal (2,500 words) kept by the student reflecting on tasks undertaken, the knowledge and skills acquired, challenges worked through, and an overall evaluation of the experience. (40) [LO 1,2,4,5]

(30) [LO 3,4]
  3. Conference handbook and guide for future APW committees (60 pages) Students enrolled in ASIA3023 will compile and edit this handbook building on the previous years versions. The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students.
