The course is a specific research project under the supervision of a research scientist at ANU or at an affiliated research institute. Students identify a supervisor after discussion with the course convener.
It may be performed in a research laboratory or involve field or library research under the supervision of a research scientist.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Plan and engage in an independent investigation of a chosen research topic supervised by an academic
- Systematically identify relevant theory and concepts from the literature, relate these to appropriate methodologies and evidence, and draw appropriate conclusions
- Understand and apply relevant research techniques and methods including data collection and analysis
- Communicate concepts and results clearly and effectively both in writing and orally

Enrolment in this course is dependent upon the availability of a suitable supervisor and must be approved by the course convener.

Workload
This can be taken as a variable unit depending on the conceptual difficulty and research orientation as arranged between the student, convenor and supervisor before enrolling. The research project will normally be completed within the semester of enrolment.Inherent Requirements
