The aim of this course is to examine the process of planning, designing and marketing textile design products. The course will be presented as a series of lectures, visits to craft and design organisations and will culminate in a practical project which will impart hands-on experience of working professionally as a textiles designer. Students will research and develop  knowledge of textiles design practice in Australia, as well as experience in working on design 'commissions' with public outcomes. Students will also learn safe working practices and develop an understanding of relevant OH&S procedures to fulfill course requirements.

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Australian craft and design sectors
  2. Research and critically analyse the market for textile designers and makers.
  3. Research and develop products within specific guidelines
  4. Practical experience of working on textile  projects with public outcomes.

Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of studio work (80%) [LOs 3-4]

Journal/Documentation/presentation (20%). [LOs 1-4]

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload

4 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice.

Requisite and Incompatibility

To enrol you must be studying a Bachelor of design arts degree and have completed ARTV1901, ARTV1902, DESA2906, DESA2907, DESA2908 or DESA2002. Incompatible with DESA2904, DESA3001, ARTV2004, ARTV2904 and ARTV2909.
