The aim of this course is to examine the process of creating, promoting and exhibiting in contemporary textile practice. The course will be presented as a series of lectures, visits to arts organisations and will culminate in a practical project which will impart hands-on experience of working professionally as a textiles artist. Students will research and develop knowledge of textiles art in Australia, as well as gain experience in working on art projects with public outcomes. Students will also learn safe working practices and develop an understanding of relevant OH&S procedures to fulfil course requirements.

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Australian art and design sectors
  2. Research and critically analyse the market for textile artists/designers.
  3. Research and develop products within specific guidelines
  4. Practical experience of working on textile art/design projects with public outcomes

Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of studio work (80%) [LOs 3-4]

Journal/Documentation/presentation (20%). [LOs 1 – 4]

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload

4 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice.

Requisite and Incompatibility

To enrol in this course you must be studying a Bachelor of visual arts degree and have successfully completed ARTV1901 and ARTV1902 and ARTV2906 and ARTV2907 and ARTV2908 or ARTV2003. You are not able to enrol in this course if you have previously completed ARTV2904 and ARTV2004 and DESA3001 and DESA2904 and DESA2909.
