Admission Requirements

This program is restricted to approved Defence personnel who hold a Bachelors of Laws, Juris Doctor or international equivalent qualifying the candidate for admission to legal practice in Australia, as well as a Graduate Certificate of Military Law from ANU.

All applicants must meet the University’s English Language Admission Requirements for Students

Scholarships

The program is taught under contract for the Department of Defence. It is only open to nominees of the Department of Defence; nominally serving ADF legal officers. The ANU College of Law Military Law Program covers the LTM2 and LMT3 levels of the ADF competency scheme for ADF legal officers.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will be able to:

  1. investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories
  2. apply established theories to different fields of military law and practice
  3. design, evaluate, implement, analyse and theorise about developments in military law that contribute to professional practice or scholarship
  4. to plan and execute a substantial research-based project, capstone experience and/or piece of scholarship in each of the fields of military discipline, administrative and operations law
  5. justify and interpret theoretical propositions, methodologies, conclusions and professional decisions to specialist and non-specialist audiences in ADF context
