This independent extended research project allows students to apply the conceptual and methodological skills they have developed in the area of cultural and environmental heritage to a particular research question or case study linked to their academic or professional interests.

Where the project involves travel outside of Canberra (including to other parts of the ACT), students will only be permitted to travel upon completion of ANU required documentation and the approval of all documentation by the relevant delegate.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Communicate concepts for a variety of relevant academic and / or professional purposes;
  2. Apply theoretical ideas to case studies developed from personal observation;
  3. Conduct data-collection and analysis for humanities research and museum work;
  4. Write a research project that applies conceptual and methodological skills that addresses a particular research question or case study; and
  5. Model best practice and have a commitment to ethical, reflective practice in regard to heritage studies.

  1. Written assessment (or equivalent project-based work), 10000-12,000 words (100%) [Learning Outcomes 1-5] (100) [LO 1,2,3,4,5]
  2. This proposal is not summatively assessed (it has zero percent weighting) but is a compulsory hurdle requirement for completion of the course. (null) [LO null]

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. For additional information regarding Turnitin please visit the ANU Online website.
