This course will extend the students' Spanish speaking, listening, reading and writing skills to reach the equivalent to B2.2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for languages. Classes explore grammatical structures, vocabulary, pronunciation, etc. Spanish is acquired through contextualised use in a range of different contexts. Students gain greater understanding of the different cultural expressions and linguistic diversity in the Spanish-speaking world.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. meet the expectations of the B2.2 level in speaking, listening, reading and writing;
  2. command a wide range of vocabulary and grammatical structures;
  3. communicate in a way that is appropriate in different communicative settings with an improved pronunciation; and
  4. engage with and discuss authentic materials in Spanish.

Indicative Assessment

  1. In-class tests (90 min each, 25% each) (50) [LO 1,2,3,4]
  2. Project (writing [500-600 words] and oral [5 min]) (40) [LO 1,2,3,4]
  3. Class engagement (10) [LO 1,2,3,4]

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. 130 hours of total student learning time made up of:

Requisite and Incompatibility

To enrol in this course you must have completed SPAN3001, or have equivalent level of language proficiency as demonstrated by placement test, or with permission of the convener. You are not able to enrol in this course if you have previously completed SPAN3030, SPAN6508 or SPAN6510.
