This course is designed for students who have completed Intermediate Greek or its equivalent. In any one semester students will read a whole text by a single author or a selection of texts (following a theme, or as an investigation of a genre). The aim will be to read the text, to discuss its content, and to appreciate it as a work of literature, or a work of history. During the semester students will revise aspects of language usage which they may find difficult and will complete language exercises, literary exercises, an essay, and a final examination.
This course will develop their skills in reading and comprehension of Ancient Greek.

- Demonstrate an understanding of the author(s)' literary style, compositional approach and/or rhetorical effects.
- Discuss the literary, historical and cultural contexts of the text(s) studied.
- Demonstrate an understanding of scholarly approaches to the author(s), text(s) or genre(s) studied.
