This major is only available to students undertaking the Bachelor of Visual Arts.

In the Animation and Video major students have the opportunity to learn 2D and 3D animation, video, compositing, VR and essential production skills. They will work in computer labs and production studios and have access to necessary technologies, equipment and software. Throughout the major both conceptual and technical skills will be progressively developed, enabling students to develop their own personal creative works in a specific digital field or hybrid media.

Graduates go on to be practicing visual artists; to undertake further study and higher degree research; to work in galleries and museums; to train as teachers or lecturers; to set up their own businesses; or to work in the film, television and allied industries.

School of Art & Design studio courses have a limited enrolment capacity. Students are advised to enrol as early as possible to maximise the opportunity of securing a place.

 

 

Learning Outcomes

  1. demonstrate an understanding and application of the practices, languages, forms, materials, technologies and techniques in animation and video;
  2. realise fully resolved works of individual creative expression;
  3. develop and evaluate concepts and technological processes by thinking creatively, critically and reflectively;
  4. work independently and collaboratively in a creative environment in response to project demands; and
  5. apply workplace health and safety (WHS) regulations and principles within a workshop environment.

Requirements

This major requires the completion of 48 units from the following lists, which must include:

A maximum of 12 units of courses at 1000 level

A minimum of 12 units of courses at 3000 level

 

12 units from the completion of the following compulsory course(s):

ARTV3033 - Creative Research Practice: Developing an Independent Work Proposal (6 units)

ARTV3034 - Creative Research Practice: Extending and Consolidating an Independent Work Proposal (6 units)

 

A minimum of 6 units from the completion of the following:

ARTV1103 - Animation and Video: The Digital Workspace (6 units)

ARTV1104 - Animation and Video: Digital Equipment and Studios (6 units)

 

A minimum of 18 units from the completion of intermediate studio courses from the following list:

ARTV2609 - Animation and Video: Visual Storytelling (6 units)

ARTV2610 - Animation and Video: Character development (6 units)

ARTV2613 - Animation and Video: Landscape and Environment (6 units)

ARTV2614 - Animation and Video: Non-linear Forms (6 units)
