The major in Marketing combines aspects of economics, commerce, psychology, sociology and statistical analysis in the assessment of market behaviour and the development of appropriate business responses.


Application of knowledge and skills

Graduates with a marketing major will demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills:

  • with judgment, planning, and problem solving in scholarship, practice;
  • to adapt marketing knowledge, solve marketing problems, and apply appropriate decision making techniques; and,
  • to seek further marketing learning and insight through their own learning and professional practice, and professional development.


Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of fundamental marketing concepts, theories and their applications with cognitive insight, technical analysis, creativity and strategic thinking;
  2. Apply critical and analytical thinking through marketing knowledge to address marketing problems through evidence-led decisions based on conceptual frameworks, market data and statistical analysis;
  3. Present concise and coherent exposition of discipline-based marketing knowledge and skills; and
  4. Convey marketing ideas in an appropriate language for businesses, stakeholders, and the wider public audiences.

This major requires the completion of 48 units which must include:


24 units from the completion of the following compulsory courses:

MKTG2004 - Introduction to Marketing (6 units)

MKTG2031 - Consumer Behaviour (6 units)

MKTG3001 - Marketing Research (6 units)

MKTG3033 - Integrated Marketing Communications (6 units)


A minimum of 6 units from the completion of courses from the following list:
